Cyclone Carb

Post by greenblood »

Hey guys,

I pulled the carb off my 76 Cyclone 340 and soaked it. Looks better, but when I went to look for parts I found the carb does not match the parts breakout in the manual nor on Pat's small engine parts breakout. The carb body is stamped with a 34 and an 83 which is correct according to the manual.

The breakouts show a baffle plate sandwiched between two gaskets. Mine only had one gasket and what looks like a smaller version of the baffle held in place by the inlet valve body. (see pic) I assme this is OK and must have been a change somewhere along the last 30 years.

I assume it is safest to just replace the small (cheap) jets, but what criteria should be used on say the needle jet and such?

The full baffle between the bowl gaskets was used on the 295S according to SM2100.

The Mikunis I've messed with look like your design.

I'd reuse the needle and seat unless there is obvious damage or wear.
The ones that come in the kits result in a different installed height.

Replacing the main and pilot jets are a no brainer.
Check the air jet in the air horn, ( if it has one ) at least the hole should be open.

I just looked in my 340s parts book, and you are correct Rich.
The two carbs I just rebuilt for the 340S had the small baffle.
