Spitfire tank grommet troubles

Im working to a 78 spifire I cant get the fuel tank grommet back in I have tried everything I can think of just can get it in. I ordered new one tonight does anyone have a trick to get these things in. Ive never had this much trouble before. Thanks Shannon

Did you spit on it?
Sometimes that helps when you're tring to stick a rubber in a tight hole.
If that is too vulgar for you ,try vasoline.

I got the tank grommet back in last night . I oredered new one and had it in 5 min. I found that the old one was just to out of shape. Now shes up and running and can get them out of garage and do some work on my own stuff. Shannon
