The good news is I got my 1980 Liquifire back. The bad news is one of the previous owners decided to have some paint work done:
Bad picture on my cell phone out in the barn this evening. It's pretty dirty and not in quite as nice condition as when I sold it many years ago, but it's still solid & hasn't been left to sit outside.
Here's what it looked like the last time I owned it:
Just looking at the dates and realized it's been gone for almost 12 years. This was my first "fast" sled. The sled I had before the Liquifire was a 1980 Spitfire that I bought from the same dealership at about the same time as the guy I got the Liquifire from. The handle bars have always been rusty, I ought to be able to find a nice set somewhere. The serial number is also easy to remember...123400.
Here's a question that's probably already been asked a bunch of times before: can I paint the plastic belly pan parts? Is there anything that will stick well?
This is just WRONG!

That is why I think paint shouldn't always be sold to the general public.

I agree its very wrong I sold a great running and mechanical condition trailfire that I got 2 yrs ago sled was also very reliable but I previous owner also did some (custom) paint work and I just couldnt stand looking at a white and black trailfire.

Oh boy ... glad I read this thread. I'd better not post my son's Trailfire, which is now Husker Red !!! Actually, I think it looks OK with the Deere decals. I couldn't really argue with him on wanting to re-paint it a different color, for I'm just not a huge fan of that off-brown color of the '78 Trailfires. I figured it's only paint -- I can "touch it up" when he decides it's no longer cool ...

I've always wanted a Liquidator, but could never afford one when I came across any for sale. Since this sled needs painted anyhow I'm thinking a 'dator paint style might not look bad. I need to see if I can figure out how do operate photoshop so I can mess around with some layouts & see how it would look.
IH red on a Deere just doesn't cut it.
