A John Deere Registry

Post by shelby »

.....I was just thinking that maybe a registry should be set up, J.D. snowmobiles seem to have quite a cult following, and many are being restored, it might be worthwhile to have production totals and a registry for original and restored J.D. machines, just to see how many still exist, I know in my area I can account for 9 machines, 3 of which are now parts machines.
This is just an idea......looking for other thoughts and opinions, and if this topic has been brought up before, then disregard this topic.......S

I am new to the world of JD sleds and would like to know more about production numbers and survival rates of the long green line also. If such information is already available somewhere, please let me know. For some reason, my computer still will NOT open up the serial number page of this web site and it is driving me crazy. I am not very computer literate - a toolbox of wrenches doesn't help me fix any of the problems (lol). I like your suggestion Shelby.

I always thought we should have that exact thing on this site.
We kind of talked about this sort of idea when Mark asked about
the 84 Liquifire production numbers.
I'm for it!

Go to www.intruderalert.com and they have a registry on that sight that may help with this. This is a motorcycle sight.

once there, go to members, then with this screen open look at the right side where it says member stats. This breaks down who has got what and where.

I know alot of use list our sleds in our signatures. But it would be cool to have a section with members to list what we have aslong as we kept it to our deere sleds. Maybe give a small description and pics. Not saying we need this but if it could be done resonably it would be cool. They had it on a ford truck site I used to frequent and it was cool to see the other members trucks.

Each sled registered should include serial number, MFG date , and model year.
The purpose of this in my mind would be to list them by model year to show what
sleds are still alive. If they sell is not so important to me at this time. It would
show how many and how few of each model year sled might be out there.

Wouldnt it also tell the world what you have in your garage. The dishonest may be able to take advantage of this. I had heard that the old VSCA owner had started a registery and few of these sleds were found in his possesion when his place was raided. Just a thought.

.....My Idea of a registry, is based around the Shelby/Mustang idea, in the Shelby Registry, is the production numbers from each year, so for each model, So many were built in the factory......then anybody who owns one of these cars can send in the serial number, and a picture, or just some info......(restored etc ) and it will be put in its proper catagory in the registry, you don't have to give out personal info, it just creates a list of how many machines still exist in a restored or original form and how many have been destroyed over time.
It would take some thought to get this idea rolling, but it might be interesting.
A friend just snagged himself a proto type black Polaris RXL, they officially came out in 91, but this is a RXL in a 1990 650 chassis, I had never seen one, for that matter, I never new Polaris made any for demo, still runs and looks good, I wonder if it could be worth something in the future......S
