Jetting with air box off

Post by malone »

I put a kioritz 440 23/lc motor in a polaris indy, but I have no room for the air box. I guess I need to know if I need to bump up the main jets to run some k&n filters instead of the air box, I know it is a good idea to bump them up w/out the air box. but I dont know if filters do the same job as the air box. Or can I try to get rich enough out of the needle position. If anyone has some advise I could use it. Thanks

You sure that the motor is out of a 76 440 LF? Motor looks different than mine.

If you use the K&N filters I would go up a couple of sizes & do some testing you may find out that you will end up leaner in the end than you are now as the K&N filters might not pull as much air as the OEM air box. but if you run no filters then I would start out about 4-6 richer & then do testing..

I am running 220 mains so you say start 4-6 up from that. so 260 +.thats w/out any filter or air box which makes cense to me. If the filters dont pull as much air as the box wont that make it a richer ratio. so if I am thinking right with filters I would have to lean in out, right? Maybe work that out in the needle position.?? I dont really know. I guess I should just get what I am going to get for it. Leave it alone and do a plug chop to see where it is at huh???

If running K&N's I would still start out a little rich then work leaner, don't want to burn her down & not learn anything about how to jet the first time out, right?

yeah You are right. I just thought that there would not be much difference between filters and an air box. enough that I could compensate either way rich/lean . with the needle valve. I will go spend the thirty bucks on some jetts. should I be worried about lean mix through the low middle range too?
