76 Liquifire Restoration

Post by Cabindweller »

Hello everyone

When I was in my teens maybe 87 or 88 I bought a 76 liquifire 440 from my uncle who was the origanial owner. I had the joy of owning it for a few years. When I was in High school one of my friends talked me out of it and I sold it to him. Well I have missed that sled ever since. Recently I contacted him and asked him what happend to that old sled. He told me that it was just left on the farm when it got sold. I stopped by the farm last weekend and the new owner told me that the sled was in tuff shape and he gave it to one of his buddys from work. I gave him my number and asked him to find out if his buddy would part with it. Today the new owner called me and after talking about it he said he would sell me it back for $150.00. I am going to get it monday after work. From what I can gather the seat is in bad shape and it is missing a radiator. It turns over but they don't know if it has spark. I know it has a bent front bumper and a slight crack in the hood because It bucked me off in the woods one time. My buddy scored a piston and had the intire motor gone through sometime around 1991 or 1992. I dont think it got ridden much after 92 because that was the year we graduated and my buddy whent to tech and got a job out of state. I put a new track on it myself in 89 or 90. but I am worried that by now it might be getting soft. All said and done I don't care how bad off it is. I am willing to get her back up to running condition. I plan to do a compleate restoration on it, I would love to get it back to showroom condition. I have been a passer by on Joe and Matt's site for quite a few years. It wasn't untill the other day I disovered they have this forum up and running. How cool is this place. I found the links for Johns Upholstery and the jdsleddecals link. All the information I need in one palce. So be prepared for all the pictures and info on my progress with my old Deere. I am sure I will have a few questions along the way I will post some pictures Tuesday. Anyway thanks in advance to everone. From what I have seen so far this is a great site.

Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.

Thanks For all the welcomes

Yes it is one of the heat exchangers missing, so I was told. I haven't seen it yet. The suspense is killing me. Got to wait till monday to bring it home. I don't think I will rest easy untill it is safe and sound in my yard again.
