Hi All,

I just gt my hand on a CCW KEC-400 apparently working. I plan to use it in a Honda oyssey that my son and I are rebuilding. I must start by saying I'm really green to this hobby and need all the help I can get.

I need to know what I'm missing I read something on this board about a CDI box Do I need one? also got the wiring diagram but that doesn't tell me much

here's the wires I have on the engine can someone tell me what needs to be plugged where

Ignition coils (going no where)

1 x red
1 x white

Harness

1 x red
1 x black
1 x white
2 x yellow

Is it a KEC-440/22 or just 440? If there is no /22, it is not an engine from a Deere, as the only sled that had a 400 was the JDX6, which was a reed valve (400/22).

It could be either a points ignition or CDI. Are the coils attached to the side of the motor with a white plastic cover? If so, it is points, and you don't need anything else. The red & white wires on the coils and harness can connect together. The black is a ground, and the two yellows are accessory power.

It's definitely a KEC-400 with two coils with white plastic covers I connected the white and red as you suggested and gave it a squirt of quick start and it fired up...!

ok now how do I wire the kill/key switch ? and do I need a bridge rectifier and battery for the accessories ?

You can go by the 1973 or '74 wiring diagram if you want to build a wiring harness & switches, or you might just want to buy a used one, they show up on ebay regularly. Any harness from a '73-'74 JDX or 00 series will work. Then you can also add a head and tail light.

You don't need a battery if you don't have electric start - the yellow wires supply power for accessories, but you do need a voltage regulator to get it down to 12v.

Are you sure the harness has a red wire?
Should be black and brown or black and black.

Either way the kill is brown(red) to black.

One of these two wires is also engine case ground, usually black.
You can confirm which with an ohm meter.

The two yellows are power.
One of these may or may not also be ground. Again check with a meter.

First off, i would like to say welcome to the site!... as i was new here only 5 weeks ago!.... i have learned a lot from these guys... and i have much more to learn....

Second, i hate to try and sell you something your first day here... but if you want a harness.... i have one from my JDX-8, only problem is, the plug where it plugs into the engine... the plug is gone... and is bare wires... (this is the reason i bought a new one!)..If you dont mind snipping off your plug.... this will work for you!.. if you want it.... i will ship it to you Priority for $10..in the U.S.... all the plugs are there and has all the lighting plugs as well... so you will be all set.... Just thought i would throw the offer up!.... I forget the threads that i post in sometimes... but if you are interested... send me a PM!
