How about the Sprintfire...?

Post by cyclone crazy »

I'm not familiar with a cast ring that is interchangeable with the Invader pistons, including early Kaw powered Cats. Other than the Sprint there is no other model to substitute the rings from. Jack [Guitar Dude] and I just went through this, the only cast bore Kaw in a 340, was a different bore size. We went through every option ever made. There is nothing to substitute. Matter of fact, it was actually easy because the only 340 cast bore was the early F/A Cats, different bore size. I take that back, the only cast bore other than the Sprint was the '73-'74 Eltigre F/A, it was a 400CC. There was never a Kaw 340 with a cast bore, other than the Sprint.

If there is an option out there, we couldnt find it. I'll run this question by Trucker he would be able to definately tell us if there was an option that we may have missed.

It has VERY little in common with the Sprintfire. But, the Sprintfire is in fact a compbination of T-1 and T-7 parts, plus unique block, crank, jugs and head.

Have fun guys,

This info is right on the money. Other than sharing a bore size the Invader motor is completely different.

Gregs 100% right, your engine is running on borrowed time. The only other way around this problem is to find over sized pistons with rings for the invader. All over sized pistons were made to be used is cast bores and not in crome bores, but on the other hand you will have to get the cyl bored out.

Ed is correct. These pistons are available .10 and .20 oversize, with an asterick that states "oversized pistons are for cast bore applications, not to be used with sleeves".

I don't now of anything off the shelf that you could use but there is the option of having the rings chromed to work in the cast bore.

You could have the cylinders chromed. But on a rebuild you probably bore the cylinders anyway. So with the over size Invader pistons the rings would not even be a problem.

Let me know when have pistons made. I would like a few sets stand., .10, .20, and .30. I don't need to rebuild yet but I want to stock parts for my 82, and 83 sprint.

Thanks, Nick
