KEC 440/22........ no spark

Post by JDT »

I tested the stator per the FAQ's and came up with readings that were OK for the four coils.

Tested the two external high tension coils and found them both OK for ohms and tested with a voltage source and both plugs produced spark.

But no spark when the CDI is in the loop.

Tested the AC voltage output from the CDI on the red and white wires that feed the external coils. Read 80.0 on the red and 4.0 on the white.
Now shouldn't I at least have spark on the one(red) plug??

Confused on this one. I figure the CDI is bad at least on one side but I do not get any spark on what I think is the good side.

Any input? Thanks

Todd,
The only true test would be to use the original JDM cdi tester, but at this point, it sounds like a bad cdi box.

Other than a bad cdi only other thing is that these boxes need a good ground. Ive ssen them with ground straps mounted to the mounting bolt for an added ground.
