Skiroule free air single racer

Post by Liquifire 4/6 »

I had a guy at my shop yesterday who says he has some sort of Skiroule with a very low hood and it has a Sachs free air single sticking out above the hood. Say's he thinks it either a 300 or a 340 and that it's an old race sled. Apparantly the engine is seized and it doesn't sound like he wants a whole pile of cash for it. He isn't into computers so he can't email me any pics. Does anyone here know anything about such a sled? Is it worth my while driving 4 hours each way to look at it if he'll sell it for a couple hundred bucks?

They did make a R-Code 340 Sachs single with a low profile hood around 1970.

Would be a nice find......

If you find that it is a common 1 lunger skiroule that doesnt interest you let me know.. I,m thinking about getting into the 1 lunger races and looking for something besides a cat ,polaris or yamaha to race. 1 lunger races are getting popular around here and looking for some fun. Rough sleds dont bother me as all my stuff i get is crap. Thanks

They do have the 1 lunger races to 1980... Could plant a 292 Kawi in a spitty. That could be just insane enough to work.Looks like anouther project heading my way.

Not really sure that the DD sleds would be fast enough, although I don't really know how fast the cats with the 292 Kawi's were???
Do they have to be stock? & how big of CC? Now a old Hirth one lunger with a ported Red Baron Cyl. one Red Baron Pipe, & 325CC of low end torque
Just my $.0675 worth

The 71-72 Lynx with the 292 is the most popular machine in the vintage single cylinder racing around MN. They run them in both stock and mod classes.

Other popular choices for engines are the Sach 340 SS and the Yamaha 292.

Rules vary with which curcuit you run. Some must be stock and others are more flexable but there are always classes to keep things close.

I like the ROLA guys which have only two rules. Must be 1973 or older and must be single cylinder. Then they have HR and HD classes.

VOLS is popular but I do not know what the rules are over there.

And there is another group in MN but I don't even know what name they go by.

I finally had a chance to stop by and see the Skiroule. It's actually in pretty nice shape cept for a psiton problem. But now the guy seems to think it's worth a fair bit of cash and seems reluctant to deal on it. I wish I had remembered to take my camera with me so I could post a pic of it. Oh well, I guess I have enough projects on the go without picking up another sled.

The Sachs F/A single R and C engines are worth very big money.
$750 rough and $1500 mint with NOS guts.

A NOS cylinder sold on Ebay a while back for $450.00
