Kenny. Sorry but I can see were I seemed sarcastic in my last post. I was not . Pipe pressure determines how much fuel the carbs will draw. It changes with air density. Lets say we establish 3.5 lbs of pressure at 1000 ft of corrected altitude to be optimal. Nexy weekend we are at 2500 ft and the pipe pressure is 2.75 lbs. At that point I will tighten up the stinger diameter to bring the pressure back up. The comression ratio is also part of this . Typically I would increase compression by half a point as the available oxygen is less than it was at 1000 ft. Theoretically main jet size should never have to be changed when pipe pressure and compression are varied relative to air density though in practice at the track we still make jet adjustments. Peter

Peter, At what difference of elevation would you need to tighten up the stinger to be optimal? every 500 ft or more or less??
This is very interesting, not that I ever plan on racing again but just the fact that snowmobile racing has gotten to be so involved...

I weld 7/16 nuts on the stingers and screw bolts in to close off the pipe, so it is done gradually. Hard to say what the #s are but I would say you could be 2mm different between minus 1000 ft and plus 3000. That is providing the stinger is right to begin with and also the distance the sled is racing. The stinger for a 500ft grass drag would burn a motor down in a quarter mile. Peter

Depends, Jaws Performance makes our pipes and then we fit the stingers and pipes in the chassis. Three cylinder motors and three race pipes are a very tight fit in a Rev chassis. We also use CrankShop and Stanley pipes. Every motor is different. We dyno them with different pipes till we find the "happiest" combination.

Thanks for all that info!!!! Very interesting to say the least. I have an old set of pipes for my drag sled. The brand is called MIDDLE SEX have you ever heard of these? It is interesting as the stingers are of vairied lenghts very minor but still different. They seem to work great for my application on a triple SLP motor...

Never heard of them. PSI and Pro5 pipes were common on those motors. Stinger diameter is more important than slightly different length.

What kind of A/F ratio are you seeing with the O2 sensor? Optimum would be 14.7, correct? Do you see a benefit goin on either side of that?

Yes 14.7 is supposed to be optimum. Our stuff seems to want to be around 13/1
