Scorpion tracks

Post by S_Kyle »

Which scorpions used the same wide track as the 600 Deere's. I recently picked up a track I was led to believe was a Deere track until I unrolled it and saw Scorpion molded in to the track. Just wondering which other sleds this track fits.

The JD 600 track is 18 x 118 x 2.52 and will not fit any Scorpions.

The Scorpion wide track models, Mark III, 71-72 Stinger III and 74 WT, use 18 x 128 x 2.52. These models are all boggie wheel suspensions.

So the 600 and the Scorps are not interchangable.

If you have no use for this Scorpion track I would buy it.

Scott if you need a 600 track I will trade you for the Scorpion one.

Also need to clarify my eariler post about the Mark III's.
While the track size is correct as stated, the drivers are not the same.
Mark's used external drive and the Stingers were internal.

To convert a Mark to the poly track the drivers and idlers must be changed.
These are available brand new from aftermarket suppliers and Scorps-R-us.
It is also nessecary to change the spacing on the inside set of boggies(two wheel axle) on all three sets.
They must be shortened 1" so they do not hit the drive nubs on the inside of the track.
Sounds like a lot of work but it is not. A saturday afternoon project will do the job.

As a Scorpion collector I have done many track/drive conversions.

I don't have a 600 yet, I have to go rescue one in a couple weeks. It has had a hard life as it is currently blue with extra vents and a Polaris motor. The scorpion track is NOS and came with a bunch of parts and pieces for Deere's. Don't know what I am going to do with it, I was hoping I had a NOS 600 track but I guess I don't

I went and measured the track for my self today. 122" x 17.5" X 2.5(2) with 10" between the centers. I looked in an old parts unlimited catalog today and I could only see 118 tracks listed for scorpions and they had the same number beside the 600 JD. Can anyone straiten this out for me. Thanks.

Is there a part number on the track that measures 122"?

Maybe it is neither Scorpion or Deere.

Lots of brands made wide-track models back in the day.

It has scorpion molded into the track. No other markings besides the directional arrow. It is the same style as the deere tracks, I would like to know what it fits before I make a decision as to what to do with it.

Does the track have windows? Like a sliderail suspension or is it closed like boggies?

Two or three sets of drive lugs?

It has two sets of drive lugs and is a solid track for a bogie suspension.

You got me...

Only thing I can figure is you measured the length incorrectly.

Does it have 46 or 50 drive lugs?
