I'm building a ice/grass drager from a 78 cyclone 340 that was junk. I'll be running in D class at cosdra events since the sled will be a mod. I've got a bunch of cyclone and old style liquifires to get parts from and want to run something different to show you don't need to spend on a race sled to win. I've got most of the chassis and drive line mods such as 2.52 pitch drivers, race track, custom rear skid, slide lube system, tunnel extension, and light weight front suspension done. What do you guys recommend for power. Any combinations are possible ie. ported liquid 440 topend on fan 340 lower. Cooling is not an issue but besting my brothers 110 hp 440 rotax is.

This is just my opinion to your questions. As I don't have any Idea what is allowed in the rules for " D class " or what your competition is??goinracing wrote: 1. I've got a bunch of cyclone and old style liquifires to get parts from

6. but besting my brothers 110 hp 440 rotax is.
1. after lightening the sled up, why would you want to use parts off the older heavier 76-77 sleds??
2. I think you only fooling yourself with this question, Speed costs money! a Fast motor, Motor mods, clutching, lite weight track, lite weight suspension, Lite weight Hood, & Pipes, all cost money the more you spend the faster you will probably go.
3. refer to # 1 & 4, Keep it lite!
4. You never said if you want to run a Deere motor or what??
Most liquid motors are heavy, & cooling is an issue with them.
Free Air would be lighter but won't produce the power of the liquids, a Kioritz/Cyclone 440 fully moded probably won't produce over 65 -75 HP max, Find a motor that parts are readily available, ( Crankshafts, Cyl's, Pistons & Rings ) & that you can mod the heck out of
5. Friction, HP & Torque creates Heat, heat burns down motors.
6. If you truly believe in # 2. forget this!
Just my $.0675 worth

D class is for vintage race and mod snowmobiles. The field usually contains sleds such as twisters, thunderjets, srx, gpx, and ocassionally an oval snowpro sled set up for drags. The cost of racing these sleds is pretty high due to initial value, cost and availibility of parts and the danger of wrecking a unreplaceable piece of racing history. The only real rule for d class besides safety is the chassis and engine must be vintage. Any engine/chassis combination is allowed as well as any modification. I understand that Deere was heavy into CC racing and there sleds were successfull but I cant find any information about anyone having a kioritz that was able to produce power in the amounts the above mentioned sleds do. Let me know if I'm wasting time on kioritz. To keep it deere maybe I'll try a kawasaki. I can put my hands on a couple of invader and ltd engines. These engines maybe easier to mod but are probably harder to find cranks and such for.

I think you would find lighter weight & better aerodynamics in the 80-84 Liquifires chassis & if you re-made the front sub assembly out of aluminum you could lose some more weight there also.
Try to find an 440 Invader 4/6 motor ( the early LTD) it uses 4 plugs & 6 port round cylinders, & will bolt right into the newer Liquifire chassis. I believe the crank & pistons are the same as the Liquifires & invaders so cranks & pistons would be readily available,
I would think that a fully mod 4/6 motor with twin pipes would produce the most power for what you want..
Also there are a lot of 80 Liquifires out there for chassis parts..

Keep in mind that during the Deere/Kioritz era the CC circuits had a 295cc, then 340cc, and then 45 HP limits, and had to be mostly stock, so they weren't high-HP machines.goinracing wrote: I understand that Deere was heavy into CC racing and there sleds were successfull but I cant find any information about anyone having a kioritz that was able to produce power in the amounts the above mentioned sleds do.
