1974 Roll-O-Flex Wild One

Post by _FIII »

Will be picking up a white wild one we found a mile from home. It has the stock Kohler 340 fan with single tuned pipe. The seller says that it puts out 65HP. Anybody have thoughts on this as it seems a little high. I would venture to say that it would be under 50HP. Was this the same motor as used in the following years in the Merc trail twisters?

I think 43 hp is what is real. The 440 FA may have come close to that 65 output... maybe <_<

I think it's pretty close to the mill used in the T/T, but the Roll O flex version might have still used a point ignition (not real sure about that). I had a 340 and a 440 T/T. The 340 would pull maybe 64 mph on a good day and the 440 about 68-70. So I think JDT is pretty close with the 43 hp estimate.....but it might have been even somewhat less. Funny how sellers always think their sleds are way hotter than they are. Still, the 74 Wild One is a pretty cool looking machine. Congrats on finding one.

I think that 43hp is at the top end of the spectrum. My dad's 77Rv has twin pipes and it only puts out around 48HP so I don't think that a single pipe, non rotary fanner that is 3 years older will out do that.

Now I can add it to my list of projects.

a guy on vs.com said that they are almost identical to the Trail Twisters and fall into the 55-60Hp range. I still don't believe it..........I guess I'll have to wait to ride it!

The Liquifire's don't even make that. They have two Cylinders but they are Liquid cooled. BOB

If we are looking for older high output milestones the 75 Yamaha 440 GPX is at the top of my list. Something like 75 hp!!!

can't beat rotax power though. My dad's 77 Rv Cross Country puts out 78HP out of a 340 liquid. Very similar motor to the 77 super stock doos. Next years cc RV was detuned to meet the HP limitations, but this one breathes fire!

I believe that the last of the snow twisters were 75hp. This might be getting late model but what about the 9700 Blizzards, anyone know what they were rated to?

9700's were a 521cc and put out 95hp. The 9500 were a 454 and put out 89hp except the 79 9500 it was about 92-93 hp. I still think this fanner 340 kohler should be under 50hp especially with a single pipe.
