Machinest.. Wheel kits

Post by I500 »

There has ben a little talk about the wheel kits for the 340/s. I have a NOS wheel kit for the Dator light suspension in my possesion. With just a little modification this can also be used on the 340/s and other sleds. Is there a machinest out there that may be interested in trying to repop these. Your looking at 3 pieces and these can be mounted on either the interior or exterior sides of rails.

Just thought i would throw that out there if anybody is feeling abitious. I cant do it right now. Might be a good project if there is interest.

If you are up for measurements and drawings I do have this available to me. I hate taking originals since they could get lost or stolen. But I have a machine shop Sister company here in Duluth that can do this. I also have acess to another machine shop here in Duluth where I used to work. I would do it in my shop but am trying to get caught up on stuff since I have been gone for awhile out of country.

Stop in and see me; my cousins across the road have a nice machine shop and could give you a quote. I could create the CAD files for them.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the offers guys. This could be a very intersting project. These can be used with slight modifications for most JD sleds i believe. Anybody interested in these kits if i was to put them together?. These are pretty rare kits and dont want to use and ruin this set . Time to repop if there is interest.

For those that never seen this then look up part number AM54401. Shows it in the Dator parts book. Maybe other books as well.

I CAN MAKE THEM IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST, iF SOMEONE COULD CAD THE TOOL PATH IT WOULD BE TERRIFIC AND MAKE A RUN OF THESE MUCH MORE COST EFFECTIVE. REMEMBER WHEELS ON ANY MODEL WILL REALLY HELP ON ICE OR MARGINAL SNOW. JRC

Master Cam is the software we CAD with....Would like to run 12-15 sets at least... we can cut them and ship same day...It's a short run that ties up a machine as Paul will attest, but I would be willing to do it. I will price per set of 2 after tool pathing program is complete. Also just finishing up a crome moly job for ACAT on front control arms and rear swing arms for their mountain special hill climb racer..will show some pictures soon! JRC

The repops wouldn't have to follow the original design to the enth degree. the originals are extrusions cut to piece length then a boss machined on the one leg. I'm guessing that if there isn't any interference, a little difference in shape wouldn't hurt functionality and would increase efficiency.
