Has anyone ever parted a sled out on here to sell the parts?
i have a 84 sportfire that I just cant get rid of and its just taking up to much space. I thought about putting it on Evil-Bay and if it doesnt sell on there i might start the process of tearing it down. I know there is alot more effort this way but i want it gone one way or another.
Also, is it worth that much more parted out? Maybe its worth more as a whole sled.
Not sure which way to go here just trying to get opinions that are hopefully from expierience. Maybe would part out a couple more JD's if this is worth the time and effort.

I think your problem is location. I would have bought the sled if you were closer to Brainerd. I think you will run into the same problem if you part it out. Peter

I wouldn't think you would have to part out an '84 to sell it.
Where are you located?

Do not part out an '84 unless it is shot. You're asking price is up there - I know they've sold for more then that, but not always. In you last topic it says "Needs some work", so that throws up a red flag. You never say in the topic what "needs some work" means. It seems a little secretive. You posted that you would put it on ebay - why didn't you? That way you sell it for the true value.

Hey Guys,
The most valuable part of the 84 Sportfire is the chassis, as the rest of the parts are darn near the same as the 82 and 83's, and most even backfit to 80. They only built 371 Sports in 84, so I can't support parting it out either.
Last year I bought an 84 Trailfire from Warroad, MN (was it yours jereeich?). I was able to hook up with a guy that knew me from my early days racing SnoCross, but now works at Polaris, and he hauled it to Hay Days for me for a small fee. It was not that hard to arrange transportation down to the show.
Listing it on Evil Bay will deffinately let you find out how much the market it willing to pay for your 84 Sport. I only paid $250 for mine at a sled show, but it's not in the best shape either. I probably would have left it there if it was an 80 or 81, but the 82-84's are hard to find in NY.
Good luck with it,
-Rainville

parting a sled out
First off, I'm not knocking you........ But I have had interest in this sled since it was first put on the site. I'm sure many others on this site do as well. I also have the ability to get to where the sled is located. I've driven form Mpls/St. Paul to Toronto, Canada to pick up an '82 Sprintfire non-stop.......28 hours on the road. In fact, we had negotiated a price and a tenative pick-up date of this sled this last spring. But after seeing detailed pictures and phone conversations of the actual work needed on this sled, I just couldn't justify the price of this sled and I'm willing to pay more than a fair price for a sled such as this. Many on this site know this fact. I purchased an '84 Sport a year and a half ago for $1500 that was in very, very nice running and physical condition including a cover, electric start with new JD battery, NOS seat, manuals, etc, etc. I thought that price was a bit stiff but it has been one of my better purchases. There was also the '84 Sport with 6XX miles this summer that sold for $400 that was very nice. I have also suggested that this sled be put on E-Bay to find out the real pull of this sled. I know it won't be anywhere near the $1500 being asked and I think that's why it hasn't been put on E-Bay. Also, the fact is is that it is summer and many haven't started "looking" or have no time to look for a sled such as this yet. As a comparison, the '82 Sprintfire I bought in Toronto is #86/146. This is a much more rare sled than the 371 '84 Sportfires produced and is in very nice shape and was also bought from a collector on this site who knew what it was and its worth. I paid $600 for it.
I also am in agreement that this sled should not be parted out. Yes, it needs plenty of work. But yes, it is restorable in the right hands. And yes, you do have a rare sled on your hands but, it's only going to bring what the market demands for it. Again, I'm not knocking you but there is a reason why this sled is not selling. That being said, if the price comes down to even a slightly high price, I'm still interested.
