Another idea is that I have a CCW 440 from a 1973 JDX8. Since the chassis is so similar, I wonder if I could put that in the JD 300? Any thoughts on putting the bigger engine into the 300?

I opened up a stuck Kohler 295 engine from a 1975 JD 300. There was water standing in the bottom of the crankcase and one of the crankshaft bearings is stuck. The other bearings are rough and the connecting rod bearings are rough. I see that Central Snowmobiles does a crankshaft rebuild for $175 plus parts. Is that what I'm looking at to get this crankshaft repaired?

Central closed their machine shop, so that is out.
Go NOS or talk to Jerome.
If things are really rusty, I'd go NOS.
A 340 or 440 will fit, if you change out the motor mount/ hoop, and both clutches.
