Juice brake housing cracked

Post by HoosierDeereMan »

When I stripped my handlebars for cleaning and painting, I found that my Kelsey Hays brake housing is cracked. At one time someone over tightened the brass fitting and it split the housing.

Is there any way to repair these?

Troy, Screw the fitting out clean it & threads in housing with alcohol or starting fluid, blow dry, then Screw the fitting in again so it spreads the crack open a little, now clean crack with alcohol or starting fluid, blow dry, mix up some high dollar Epoxy use a tooth pick or something small & make sure you get the Epoxy down in the crack good on both sides of the cracks & back the fitting back out so the excess epoxy oozes out, clean excess epoxy off housing & screw down a small hose clamp on it for a few days til epoxy is good & dry, it should be as good as new, this is what I have done in the past.. But when tightening brake hose onto housing from then on make sure that the fitting never gets turned as it to will be glued to the housing..

Kenny,

Thanks for the info. I knew there were issues with cracking these housings from over tightening the brass male fitting. That was the first thing I looked for when I pulled the pad off the handlebars. I've got some epoxy and will give it a shot.

Troy,

I got the number from a guy that will repair the housing and rebuild your KH brakes for around $100 or so. I guess he machines the end down then installs a metal sleeve. He sends back your entire brake system all bled/rebuilt and ready to install. I believe he is on the vintagesleds site.

His name is Dan....1-585-671-4015
