seized engine

Post by Hansy »

I'm looking at buying a 75 JD 800 with a seized engine and was wondering if anybody could tell me approximately what it would cost to rebuild it. is there a complete overhaul kit or do you have to do everything separate?

Hansy,
First, welcome aboard. A complete rebuild kit for your engine is not available, parts will have to purchased individually. You will need to dissesemble the engine to determine exactly what is wrong. Possible causes could include:
-rings rusted to cylinder walls
-rusted crank bearings
-broken piston
-jammed recoil
The most expensive to fix would be the crankshaft-around $200+
Pistons-$45
gasket kit-$30

I believe the vendors such as Dennis Kirk and Central would ship to Canada. Try giving Ed a call, he is in the process of rebuilding his Ebay store.

you biggest prob is to find out where its seized some lube down the plug holes and working the clutch back and forth may free it right up rings often stick when an old sled has sat along time deeres have alot of engine coverage and aslong as everything was inplace when it sat its probably not stuck to bad in my experiences

so would putting moovit or liquid wrench in the cylinders and letting it sit solve that problem or should i pull it apart and put new rings in and clean the cylinders?

Sure let it soak for several days and then try to move it.
