Broken track cleats

Post by 440SPORTFIRE »

I need help! I have one cleat starting to come off my 80 sportfire track. ( the rivet broke ) What size/type of rivet should I use to fix this? And is this the best way to repair the broken cleat? Thanks-Timothy

I have a bag of rivets but no size, I'll go find them and measure if nobody chimes in. another quick fix is to replace the rivet with a screw or the whole cleat (dennis kirk) and use screws. I've done this a bunch of times in a jamb. find some small screws that just fit, I can't remember the exact size, 5/32 or so, fender washers and nylon nuts. I used allen head screws. tighten them on with the fender washer on the inside of the track. Good as new. Just make sure your screws or rivets fit tightly in the cleat/track holes, no slop or the cleat will rip off again. Grind off worn or broken cleats and replace.
Good luck

Thanks for the help, I didn't know if you could use a nut and bolt to fix the cleat, If I use a nut and bolt, should I use stainless steel? or grade 8? Thank you
