2 words, one hyphenated: Permatex Ultra-Black. It should work, just make sure to clean all of the oil/gas residue and sand the ball and cap areas before applying. Let it set for 24 hours before you fire the sled up. I've tried the ceramics, donuts, and all of the aerobic sealers you can find, and the Ultra-Black works the best to protect your underhood bling from blowback.

I havent thrown it on a fire yet. I may drag it behind my truck all next week that is for sure. I am thinking about getting some doughnut gaskets for my truck and try something with them. This isnt a big deal, but it is..

Danzig let me know how that works ..I have the same problem with my 80' LF I've tried two different manifolds and mufflers plus new springs..
Now it's been sealed with temp silicone AFTER cleaning both surfaces with solvent...right now the muffler/manifold looks brand new after painting
new springs and sealer and I haven't started it since doing that. I don't ever remember that leaking like that in the yrs past..I know both mufflers are clear of debrise .........something has to work ...

Well my silicone is a dark red ...but its a RTV high temp silicone I'm sure there's different brands I got it at Oriellys.
It sealed but how long it lasts is unknown....I coated both pieces AFTER cleaning them and let stand for about 15min. and then put
them together with new tight springs from Ace. The hard part was not starting it for a few days just so it cured good but it sure sounds nice
with no blow back at the joint....good luck.

It all started back in 1964 when the Beetles landed on US soil??
I would use the Orange High Temp RTV sealant plus the color matches all the other little orange rubbers

I had the same problem, I took a good metal forming hammer and anvil, and took my time and slowly reformed the socket part, made it a little tighter. The connection actually snaps together now, still has movement and sealed up rather well. Painted the exhaust up and wahla. Try this if the silicone doesn't work. Looks original to. Ron

I did this with a small Ballpeen hammer. I used a small amount of red RTV silicone in there as well. Additionally, I performed the Y-Pipe mod from our friends over at Kawasakitrax. Dunno if it helped, but it kept me occupied for about an hour.
