WELL... got my new carbs on finally today. got everything buttoned up. very nice concidering weve got about 8 inches of snow. great. go to start it up and nothing. about 100 pulls later nothing still. so i go up stairs for lunch and think about it. after lunch i went back down and pulled it, 3 later it sputtered, so i cut the choke and pulled agian. it took offf, did about 7 grand for about 30 seconds and then after pulling the key trying the emergency shut off and choking it it was still going. so i had to pull the plugs. obliviously that stoped it. of course by then their was a lincon log in my undies but all in all not to bad. however in the rush the hood went all the way forward and was just about done in, and the winsheild was cracked pretty bad, can anyone help me out?

Sounds like you flooded it the first time, then the second try you were burning off the fuel that was sitting in the case.
As for the kill switch not working, check the electrical connection on the engine, and if that is tight, check all your ground screws.

Frankie,
Yup, I've done that. Was working on a dirt bike as a kid and didn't line the slide up when putting it back in the carb. It's a mistake I'll never make again.

Was it one of the long logs with three notches or the small corner ones?
Fun afternoon
luckily it was up on a stand, but i still broke the windsheild. anyone got any? 76 liquifire. and it ran way to long at that rpm to be just left over fuel.
i herd from a guy who when he was a kid had a kawisaki fan cooled sled. he rode to a friends and it was running fine, rode back ran fine, got home tried the kill switch, nothing. the keys, nothing. still running. turns out the fan belt broke and it got so hot that the sled stoped running on spark and was running like a diesel, just on compression. eventually after it cooled down it died out. the next morrning he went out and the motor was completly siezed.
must have been intresting. anyone herd of something like this?

Decker..Seen this happen more times than I wanted to when we were running in the swdra circuit..Happens way more than you would think.. That's what happened to Norman Ball at Hay Days at the end of the day when we would run the motors on the edge going for top speed of the day..Almost cost him his life..Seen a few dynoing that got hot and would not shut off also.. Yep....sure have. I used to have a 1977 Yamaha DT400 that did that anytime it was in neutral and running out of fuel (which was quite often with it's little peanut of a tank). It'd just rev and rev til it ran itself completely dry. Turning off the ignition switch or hitting the kill button had no effect at all. Eventually, I discovered that clicking it up into second gear and dumping the clutch would cause it to immediately stall.......but I felt a tad nervous doing that the first time with the tach way into the red zone.Decker wrote:it got so hot that the sled stoped running on spark and was running like a diesel, just on compression. eventually after it cooled down it died out. the next morrning he went out and the motor was completly siezed.

I have seen him at a few races since (not racing) Still see his old twisters running. They reduced the the speed run distance to 500 ft the next year. I was on the line when he went down for that fateful run also.
Fun afternoon
Peter..Were you racing in the swdra also?? I was running with Triple E Racing out of Orion Il.,, and Biles Motorsports out of Princeton Ia.. They are two of my best friends..I know Jon(Biles) came up to Canada a couple times to run in the Shootout challenge and did very well..I didn't get to come along on those trips.. We probably seen each other!!! Small World... Frankie

Tore his Ligamentum Arteriosum. Common tramatic injury that kills many each year mostly in auto accidents. Need to crack the chest open to repair it.....if you survive that long. Most common cause: very rapid deceleration or acceleration trauma.
