79 spitfire top speed and carb
hey guys i have a 79 spitfire that i have had for a year now, i was wondering what the topspeed is on one. it is all stock but no airbox just a screen filter. also how do you change the jets in the carb? i have a a few sleds but never one with a carb like this. also is the jet that is in the top of the carb the pilot? and is there supposed to be a through hole in it like a normal jet? also how do you change the main? the sled will run maxed out at 40 and i can go 1/2 throttle and matain that speed so i was hoping to chang my jetting a bit to get a little more out of it.

Ck your track drive sprockets IF you have the 7 tooth there is an optional 8 tooth that will give you a little more speed & not take away from your power (unless your a big man) the Spits & Snowfires have enough extra power to handle the extra tooth driver. It still might not be as fast as you would like but will be a little improvement on top end.
For carb info, try to find & purchase a Blue covered JD Fine Tune Manual 79-83 Snowmobile Horicon Works # SP-509-H2. This manual has a good section on all the newer Deere Carbs ( 78-84 )
