Curious how did he get to be associated with JD. Boy was he mad at the end of the race when someone told him the wrong way to go! Was it a consperiency....he was in first.

That story may be in the ETD archive.

Roger was hired along with Dale Cormican, to help with the development of a competitive CC sled ( the 340S ) and help build and mentor the '75 race team.

Actually Deere was poised to have a real shot at a upset win in the Winnepeg. Our 340/s 's were in much better shape for the last days run to the finish than the rest of the top ten. In addition both Roger and I were healthy and had good strength left. Burt Basset had 18 stiches in his lip, and Monsrud was rumored to have some mechanical issues...no headlite to start is also a rule infraction.....so the race was on for the last 200 miles! A upset would have turned the sales tables around dramaticly for Deere and everyone knew it, a lot of the sled business was riding on the result. Also remember that in MN if your not on a Cat of Polaris you are a minority. Many Polaris jackets officiated the race...you can imagine the rest! Best JRC ETD

Ed,

Cool pic's! What that last one from 1980? and is it a race? I see a steel 79 Trailfire in the background to help date the pic somewhat.

Thanks,

Yes Joe it was a race. I am trying to nail down the location. I'm sure Jon knows. I was wrenching for Stan running prostock. I think that is Oster, Nelson, and Chester Bowman.
you see the date. The steel jd must have been someone local not part of our program. ED

Hi Ed. Great pics of Jon,1st pic you have of Jon was in 74 at the Assinaboine Downs in Winnipeg(thats were the sleds were kept the night before the race). 2nd picture and results were in Willmar MN,
were Digner won. My brother dan finished 2nd. I was Karpiks teammate in 79,and I broke down that
race.Stan and you finished 1st in the pro-stock class, Stans time was faster than the pro class guys.
but Stan was always "fast".----------Bobby--------
