Just looking through the Cyclone/Liquifire SM I got today and saw the Deere Dyno in the service tools section. Anyone got some insight on the amount of these produced and where one could be found. If anyone has one of these a pic of it would be awesome to see. Thanks.

I know the guy that bought and restored the one out of Horicon Works.
It sold for about $100 6 years ago. I could stop and get some pictures.
I have heard of at least 4 of these while talking to different people.
I did try tracking how many were produced but had no luck with it.

Harley sent me this, but I think he is out of town this week so he can't reply. It is from one of the service books. We know where one is sitting, but I'd rather not disclose as I'd like to get it if the owner decides to let it go.

a dyno is basically a hydralic or other fluid resvior that slows the track and or engine by putting various loads on it. one simple method would be to use a gear pump on a track(inverted bogie wheel) hook pump to resivior for intake.on outtake put a adjustible pressure valve hooked to a guage to give you a pressure reading. the other guage is usally a tach for measuring rpm.
using both the rpm and pressure you can graph the torgue curve of engine or sled and make adjustments as nessary. there is a calulation for figureing out hp somewhere but i cant remember it.
the picture was just the floor model dyno for setting up clutches. the engine model (which where attached to simular model)is attached to tapered end of crankshaft.
note missing on picture was the tube for exhaust which is kinda important.
have fun all

my father in-law had one for 25 years or so and sold it for 300 dollars here in central michigan about 3 years ago, then about 1 week later the guy listed it on ebay for 1000 dollars i dont think he ever did sell it. if i remember right the track on it was a wide track off a 600. It was a neat machine but we made more room for antique JD snowmobiles by selling it. Back in the mid to late 70's my father in-law was a JD snowmobile mechanic, he still has most all of the JDM tools and hard binder service manuals. Jason

I have one of the dynos sold by John Deere if I remember right they were made by the Owattona tool company like the rest of the sled tools. Mine is waiting in the shed for a restoration. they did use the 600 wide tracks, I got mine with a couple of new tracks with it. If anyone has the manul I would be interested in a copy.
