First Snowmobile
Was talking with some snowmobiler friends today and we got in a long conversation about what was the first snowmobile you ever rode. it was interesting the different brands people started riding on. and i thought it would be a good subject for a post just to see how many people actually started riding on a john deere. my first was i believe 71? johnson rampage and nicks was a 73 jd 500.

My first ride on a sled was my fathers 73 JDX8 in 1975. Of course my father was driving since I was just a little guy. Ever since my childhood I have been addicted to JD sleds.

I am almost embarrased to admit this but my first ride was on a Diablo circa 1966.

First ride - my Dad's 1968? Scorpion Trail-a-Sled one-lunger
First Sled I drove - my Dad's 1972 JD 400. Wish I still had it. He gave me the Deere and my Grandpa's '73 400 when I was in my 20's. I sold them as a pair a long time ago to a friend of a friend in Bloomington, MN who supposedly broke thru the ice with the 72. Wish I still had them

This topic really brings up bad memories and hurt feelings. My first ride was a spitfire that I had to take my sister on, and she got.......well, just see the picture.

This is a really cool topic. It's so much fun to see what others began their sledding careers on. Back in 1972, my brother purchased a used 1967 Polaris Mustang from a neighbor for $50.00. Unfortunately, the engine and primary clutch had gone MIA. He ordered a Norco torque converter from Princess Auto (where else?) and yarded out the 8HP Briggs & Stratton from my dad's garden tiller for the winter and installed it on the sled. It probably only did about 18mph, but as a 10 year old kid, I thought it was the quickest thing around. My after school routine in the winter consisted of running from the school bus straight to my sister's room and secretly hijacking her hair dryer, then setting it on high right up beside the recoil starter so that the primative B&S starter clutch would do it's thing in the extreme cold. Bet she wondered why that dryer was often grease stained. After about 20 minutes of heat, it'd fire right up and I'd be off sledding on the only 4-stroke machine in my area. My next experience with a 4-stroke sled was a 2001 Polaris Frontier Touring.........and it really didn't feel a whole bunch quicker. Rode that B&S Mustang for three winters until I finally convinced dad that we needed a John Deere 400.

She definately got to wear the cooler helmet!!! Imagine a sweet little girl like that wearing a 3 time I-500 helmet. By the way she has two wonderful daughters now that drive her crazy!!!
