My First deere!
Went last night and got my first deere! A 1980 Liquifire 440, it is actually a 340 sled but a kawi 440 motor was transplanted in. I think I did pretty good it's in nice shape perfect seat and hood missing a dash though but for $200 I wont complain.Been sitting a while so I'll have to clean it up and check it out but she should run fine from what the guy said. So what are the pro's and cons of this sled?

Welcome Zero. The Liquifire is like a woman! She needs to be treated well and taken care of. If the sled has been sitting? Clean the carbs, change the crank seals and remove and lube the suspension before you ride it. I would hate to hear you melted it down on your first ride.

Hi Zero,
The 1980-84 Liquifire was only offered as a 440cc Kawi powered sled. But, I've seen several with Kawi Invader motor dropped in, as they are nearly the same motor.
I hate to admit it, but Dave is right. The Kawi's are tough on the mag side crank seal, and sensitive to dirty carbs and worn belts.
Plus side is that they are light, quick and handle like they are on rails. Resonable amount of suspension if it's properly lubricated and working well. Oil injection is nice, and liquid cooling makes it pretty quiet. It also has a nice thick seat and OK ergo's for a 28 year old sled too.
Good luck with it! And don't run it w/o the air box. It needs the pressure drop to pull fuel through the power jet circuit.

Well I got around to getting it started today, fresh gas and oil she started right up, going to clean out the carbs and pump and replace fuel lines and filter tomorrow. It was last registered in 2007 so I am not going to do the seals. I do need a dash for this sled though, that's about the only missing or broken piece, every thing else is pretty mint. And the thing about the air box, I don't have one, what can I do to compensate for it?
My First deere!
There is a nice dash on ebay right now. Was less than twenty when I looked at it. I know the seller and he is trusted.

A really good way to compensate for no airbox, is to find an airbox! Trust me, leave it in the garage until you find one.
