my sled loses the prime after sitting, you can see half way down the gas line air,
i would rather not install a primer, maybe a shut off value??? otherwise do i have a leak in one of the connections or is this in the fuel pump? thanks

I got mine from Deere I also did install a shut off value and that did keep it primed but it still starts hard. This carb has been gone through and the choke is adjusted to 1.25 inches. Took about ten pulls and I had to have it on full choke to get it to pop then back to regular choke and took about three more. Any ideas?

I have had the same problem Andy. About half of the newest ones have a checkvalve that does not seat.

Yep Todd if you blow into it it will seal but just the pressure from the gas pushing on it is not enough. I guess the pressure from sitting in the gas tank is greater than the line pressure and it holds them open. Have you got any ideas on an inline type checkvalve. I know they make them for copper tubing for oil tank lines but it seems like to much hassle to plumb 1 of those into a fuel line.

I have the same problem with my 74 600. Got it out for the first time today, and pulled my guts out. Finely I sprayed some sniff [starting fluid] in the cylinders and got a couple pops  . Then some in the intake and cylinders and pulled 5 more times and finely it started  . I took it for a short ride to warm it up and now it starts great every time :D . If I let it sit for more then a few days it starts hard again :wall: . The gas slowly bleeds back.

mine does that after it just cools down and maybe just a tad longer, in the manual its says to flip on the choke while running and your engine should die, how quick should it, i am wondering about my choke but i have it adjusted to specs? it takes awhile for it to die on choke

What I did was went through the pickup valves that I bought and use the bad ones on sleds with Mikuni carbs and the ones that seal on butterflies.

I do not know if there is a better part out there but the Made in China ones are iffy.

Darn Chineese are slipping on QC. If they came from Japan I bet they would work 100%.

Just poked around McMaster Carr's website. I typed in Check Valves. Long list.
Refined search with plastic.

They carry a poly inline check valve that is available with buna or vitron seat.
looks a lot like the inline fuel filters we all use.

1/4" barb fittings. Cost... $3.68. That is less than I pay for the traditional in the tank bronze ones.

Next order I will get a couple ond try them out.

I would not recommend shooting ether into the intake of a two stroke my friend did it on his RM125 and it broke it.
