1976 295 Alouette Super Brute. I a looking for a friend. I was informed that almost all of them have cracked around the filler neck and in this case along the bottom. We were just thinking that this might be our last resort. There was a guy with a 340 parts sled in Carmen MB but I can't find his number :wall: . This sled is in A1 mint condition - ripped seat but we need to get this sled back on the trail. It is just a blast to ride, spends more time with the skies off the ground then on.

Scott.....there's a guy in Yorkton,SK that has a 74 440 Super Brute. He's been tryin to sell it for 2 yrs, but he likely still has it. Far as I know, the tank is OK. I know his last name is Flundra, but I'm not 100% certain of his first name. I'm thinking it's Jim......and if my guess is right, his number is 306-783-3597. He was asking a bit much for it when I spoke to him last winter....if he still has it, perhaps his price has come down. He'll probably tell you it has a new track.....but the track that's on it is a JD track, so it'll heat up within a few hundred feet.......the Super Brute tracks were dimensionally identical to the JD 300 & 400 tracks, but they had a coating of hifax-like material on the inside of the track to run against the steel slide rails. Just thought I'd mention that in case he tries to make a big deal about the sled having a new track.

Thanks for the help guys. I have some family around Yorkton so I might head up there for a visit. Pete the super brute, track aside was the sled in decent shape? I will take a good look at the tank when I see him tomorrow.

The hood looked good. I think there were some cracks in the belly pan, but nothing very major. The seat was reupholstered and whoever did it knew what he was doing as it looked fantastic. The bumper end cap trim pieces were missing on both sides. The plastic tool box housing at the front of the seat had some internal cracking which wasn't visible until opening the lid. The taillight housing wasn't great. The tunnel was nice. I think the engine had some issues, but I can't remember what the prob was. If you're passing thru Roblin on your way to Yorkton, drop in.......you can reach me at 937-7685.

plastic welding a tank

In years past I have repaired many other mfgs plastic tanks by using this method. Clean tank thoroughly with soap and water inside and out and make sure there's no gas fumes in the tank. Grind a 1/2" rod to a point. It doesn't need to be sharp. Heat rod until it's red hot. Take the rod and make a furrow where the crack is, about 1/2 the thickness of the tank deep. This will be the hard part because I don't know if you can find these anymore. I used old clear plastic covers from 1 or 3 lb coffee cans. I'm not sure if anything uses clear plastic covers any more. I supposed you could use your wifes tupperware covers (LOL). Take and melt the covers and let the melted plastic drip into the furrow. I've never had any problems with these leaking afterwards. I'm sure that with today's technology, maybe there is something else that would work such as the epoxy they use to repair the plastic bumpers on cars today.

Scott.....I'm not sure if you've found a tank for the Super Brute yet. But in case you haven't, I just got a lead on another Super Brute for sale. It's in Pilot Butte, SK and the guys name is Harvey Hill. I don't have his number, but he should be in the book. I haven't seen the sled. Maybe he has some misc parts for sale as well such as a decent tank?

I used to weld plastic auto interior pieces back together or fill holes that a previous owner drilled as part of a custom audio installation business. They actually make a "kit" but personally I thought it sucked for the money it cost and always used a soldering iron. Pretty much the same method as Kenny describes with putting a deep v-groove in the crack. Then I'd take a rod of the same type of plastic and use the iron to melt it and swirl/mix it into the surrounding area. Sand that down and using a small butane torch I'd level it all out.

Found one locally. The problem a kid took a sledge to the sled when he couldn't get it to run right. It is sitting on top of a rock pile, so I have to go take a look. Thanks for the help guys.
