Post by tony7763 »

I own a 1972 400 and can't seem to find the drive gears for it . The OEM # is AM 52078 for the gears and # M 63136 for the shaft. Both of these are serial # - 20000. Are there any other models that will interchange even though the numbers are different? Are there any aftermarket dealers that carry these new? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

If these are the same drive sprockets that the 73 400s had I think you should be able to get them from central snowmobile in green bay, wisconsin. They were listed in the 2008 catalog. I dont know how the 2009 inventory compares. They have a website. centralsnowmobileatv.com

I got online to look at the 2009 catalog, but they don't list any drive gears at all. I will give them a call in the morning. Thanks for the info TMartin. I'll let you know if I find them. Tony.

Those same gears that fit the 400 also fit 500, 600, JDX4, and JDX4 special.

I would think you should be able to pick up a set of nice used gears.

The 600 used a wider axle shaft other than that I would think any axle shaft from a bogie unit would work.

Central has dropped a lot of parts in the last year. The drive sprockets seem to on that list. My guess is that Kimpex has discontinued making a lot of this stuff.

You need a driveshaft with sprockets off a '72 or '73 sled. Somewhere in there, they up graded to a larger shaft dia. I'm thinking some or all of the '73 X8s got upgraded.
It's been a while since we've talked about that, Rich might remember.

CPC should have a NOS shaft M63136, but don't have the drivers unless they can cross them over to another MFG sled. I do know that back in the 70's there were a lot of mfg. using the same pitch poly tracks.
Wasn't there someone on this site from close to Janesville Wi. that said they had a bunch of NOS Deere parts a month or so back?? anyone remember who that was??

Andy, I tried E-mailing you, but I'll hit you here too just in case. If you could send me the parts that would be great. Is this for just the gears or for the whole assembly? Also I have the axles with the grooves on the outside for the retaining clips and a 15.5 inch track if that helps you. Let me know how to contact you and method of payment. Thanks again, and to everyone with input. Tony.

HUH?

The drive end is splined for the drive chain sprocket, the other end is smooth, turned down a bit where the bearing goes on ( speedo drive end ).

I meant bogie axles to help narrow the field for the correct type of drive for that design. Sorry, my fault I didn't elaborate. I was in a hurry. Andy says he has the correct one and will find it when the Holiday Season hustle calms down. It just shows Brian is paying attention in trying to help us novice beginners. Thanks for keeping me straight. I contacted Centralsnowmobile ATV, but they didn't carry them and directed me to ArtssnowmobileandATV. They said they were sure they would have one as long as I measured the dimensions so they could get the proper match. Tony.

OK, got ya. The '72 and '73s used a different bogie shaft set up than all the rest.
On those early sleds, the bogie shafts clamp to the bottom of the foot boards.
'74 on up, the bogie shafts bolt through tabs along the bottom edge of the tunnel.
