That is NOT a 440/5 thats a 440/22 out of a cyclone with a liquifire intake and manifold. must have just put the /5 fan tower on it. the reed valve intake gives it away

Joel,
Are those some kind of exhaust temperature sensors in each exhaust outlet or just something to hold the engine shroud in place?
I agree with JDXspec on the engine. It could even be a 340. When you tear it down you can look at the casting numbers under the heads and on the hidden sides of the cylinders.
I'd be concerned about running that Liquifire intake. Since that intake is made for a front mount (angled) engine application and the 600 is a mid mount the carbs sit at an angle. I think this would really mess with the float settings. It may effect the needle and seat from working correctly?
That is a decent looking 600.

IT IS A 440 I HAVE THE CYLINDERS OFF AND PULLED A PISTON AND IT HAS CCW 440 RD L UNDER IT. IS THERE MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE /21 AND /22. I DONT KNOW WHAT THE POSTS ON THE EXHAUST ARE FOR. IT IS MISSING THE SHROUD. THE EXHAUST LOOKS LIKE IT MAY HAVE BEEN WELDED TO FITIM NOT SURE.

Joel,
The /21 and /21 use a different base gasket, as the 22 has one more transfer port. The 21 also has a smaller diameter piston pin. Therefore "everything" is different, such as the crank, cases, jugs, pistons, etc. Only the 73 JDX-8 originally came with a KEC 440/21. Deere didn't use the 340 or 400/21's.
The 440/22 is much more common, and has the 18mm piston pin vs 16mm for the /21 I belive. Versions of the KEC440/22 were used from the 74 JDX-8 up to the 78 Cyclone with revisions such as head bolt pattern, pistons, CDI, Mikuni carb, etc.
I hope this helps,
-Rainville
PS: I also share the same concerns about the angle of the carbs. I would modify the intake so they lay flat.

THANKS JOE
YES THE CARBS DO SIT IN A FLAT LEVEL POSITION SO THAT SHOULDNT BE ANY PROBLEM.

Aren't the Mikunis designed to operate up to a certain angle? Up or down shouldn't matter.
The exhaust manifold looks like it could be from a Cyclone, but they must have kept the point ignition and recoil from the /5.

Joel,
Here are a few pictures of a RH 440/22 head and cylinder I have. You can see the Kioritz parts numbers. Maybe this will help identify what you have.

Joel,
Sorry, but I need it for a future 800 project I hope to get to one of these days.
At least you know what you have now. Like Joe mentioned the 440/22's are out there.
