What are these sleds worth?
What are these sleds worth?
I'm restoring a '73 400 and all my buddies say its a waste of time and money because its not worth anything. I think they're all full of it, but I am curious as to what it might be worth.

You need to ask yourself what it's worth to you.

What is it worth to you?
Depending on how far you are going in your restoration efforts, what the sled needs, and how many $$ that translates to, it would be easy to spend more $$ on the 400 than it is worth.
You are the only one who can decide what it is worth. The time that you are putting into the effort also makes it tough to come out financially ( probably impossible ).
I wouldn't worry about it if you are having fun. Your buddies most likely lack the skills or the patience to do what you are doing.

The local guys here say I am crazy for doing the same thing.......a beautiful thing that I have that they dont is the power within to fix this thing.......try doing that on a fuel injected sled with out a computer to plug into it.... Who cares what its worth, I have asked similar questions back on the old ez-board and was told the same thing that I am telling you.
In closing the best part about my old sled (X8) is pulling up beside a newer sled and shutting it off. Then watching these poor bastards pull their arms off on the newer sleds to get them started and all I have to do is pull the choke and twist the key.....vroooooom.................GOD I LOVE THAT...............sweet..

Very well said, and I like the part about standing there staring and smiling , I have found myself doing that a couple of times. Other people come over and look at my sled I just finished and they say it looks nice but they could care less because it is not what they are into.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is priceless.

First off, I cannot say enough for the people on this site or the guys that sponsor it. The fun I have had in the last year restoring my cyclone is only second to the amount of things I have learned in the process.
Now I enjoy smiling every time I take off the cover off ,either to continue my progress , or reflect on my many hours of labor . Money seems to be the furthest thing from my mind (though a hole bunch of snow would be great ) . I didn't do it so I could make a profit , the biggest profit to expect is that of your own learning and personal satisfaction.
You have done a couple things right so far , first you picked John Deere and second you wound up at this site . Thanks again every body and here are a couple of pictures I'm proud to post of my almost completed 76 cyclone . Not completely exact as it came of the line , so don't use my pictures as a reference for a factory original , but it true John Deere just the same
thanks again
Kevin
