I need some help with the following serial numbers. I'd like to know what year these machines are & if any of the following would interchange with a 295s? I have a bare 295s tunnel I'd like to make a rideable machine.
If I read it correctly #1 & #2(which are 400's) are 1972, #3 & #4 (which are 300's) are 1974. Of the four I had listed, would anyone be better than another as far as putting the 295 together?
The 295/S had CDI ign. Twin carbs, Piston Ported & Comet clutch, so if any of the above has CDI & a Comet clutch then that would probably be the way to go. I guess it depends on how accurate you want to try to be??
Also the 295/S had like mentioned above a engine all it's own, also the exhaust was 295/S specific. There was one other Deere that used a similar exhaust, I can't tell you which?? Someone more familiar with the 100 series sleds will be able to tell you which, if your making it a bogie or slide suspension sled then the 100 series will work, BUT if your looking at a bogie/slider that was again 295/S specific & very rare & hard to find..

I'd just like to put it together as corretly as possible. I have purchased two of the above mentioned sleds, yet to be determined which two. Also included in the sale was a truck load of parts & a brand new, just out of the box seat.

Almost, the 400s are 73 since the numbers are over 11,000. The 300s are probably closer for misc. parts.
Dave,
If the purchase was for the specific purpose of putting together a 295/S, I'd have to go with #3 and #4 as they are the correct model year. This way more parts may work out for you, but condition would have to be evaluated to decide for sure.
