help with jack shaft removal
im removing a jackshaft from a 76 liquidfire and the bearing located closet to the secondary clutch seized big time to the shaft. i got a puller on in with no luck i even tried to heat the bearing up with the puller on it with presure on it also. Is it time to replace the jackshaft? any advise is greatly appreciated.... THX Jerry

If you know of a local Auto Parts store such as Napa, take it to them. Maybe they can press it out with their huge press. If you know of someone with a torch, have them cut off the outer part of the bearing, then use a die grinder and cut almost all the way thru the inner part of the bearing without hitting the shaft. Then use a good chesel and split the remainder of the bearing. This should relieve enough pressure and it will come off.

so the best bet would be to take the jackshaft out completly huh?

Yes, diffinitly. You may have to unbolt the aluminum mounting from the tunnel to get the shaft out.

already have that part off and it was a pain in the rear to get the bolts nuts off on the inside of the tunnel

Oh boy wear safety glasses grab a good ball peen put bearing on vise hit it hard it will break outer race off, hammer on inner race once or twice turn do it again it will either crack inner race or loosen it enough to remove.

RP is correct. Bearing races are very hard and very brittle. A heavy smack with an engineer's hammer while sitting on an anvil will fix any siezed bearing

Ive had the same problem. Ive removed the entire shaft. Then used a hydraulic press to revove the stuck bearing. Works everytime!!

5 mins to setup to remove bearing on press or grind or use torch. 2 mins using hammer to crack bearing off. Cracking bearings off doesnt damage shaft like the other ones generally do..also takes about 2 mins tops to remove bearing. Sometimes the simple methods work best.
