1980 trailfires

Post by JD82KID »

I picked up the 2 TF 340 on Friday. One starts up on first pull, the other needs starter fluid sprayed in, then it fires up. What causes this problem? Does it need adjusting or cleaning?

They came with manuals and a tech manaul all for $600.00, and they look pretty good!!

The carb probably needs cleaned. Having the manuals will help a lot, it will very clearly explain the proper cleaning procedure. Those power jet carbs can be a pain to get clean.

Check the fuel pump and fuel lines wile your at it.

what is the best carb cleaner to use? Will I have to take the float bowl apart to clean?

Has anyone used a product called seafoam? I heard this works pretty good?

I have never used sea foam cleaners, but have use some of there other products. They work great but are pricey.

Normally I use kleen flo carb cleaner and dunk, but have used all kinds of different types and they all work. To properly clean the carb it will have to be taken completely apart. I mentioned it before read the section in your tech manual about cleaning the carb if you are unsure of the proper procedure. The carb may have to be dunked and soaked to get all the crud out of the carb.

Will I be able to use the same gasket, or put on a new one, if so, where can I get one?

You shouldn't need anything to clean the carb. Unless the jets are so bad they need replaced.

Those appear to be very nice. $600 was a deal to be sure.

Nice!!! Now pull those engines and replace the crank seals before you have to change pistons.
