Pre mix gasoline

Post by tmartin »

I was wondering what some of you use as far as premix gas ratios and what oils you use. I have 73 john deere 400 and a 73 arctic cat panther 340. They both say 20:1 for the mix ratio. Does this hold true to today or was this for the old oils out there? Thanks for the input. I just don't want to wreck anything.

I have found that 20:1 in a few places but, very few sleds will run well on that heavy of a mix. I would say 40:1 for the 400 as that is what my friends and I use for the early Deere's.

Todays 2cycle oil is different running 50:1 is the norm for sleds. An exception to be made is when your doing an engine breakin ( new rings or pistons) Do Not Use sythetic oils during this time. Running more oil than that at anytime is not only a waste, harmful to enviroment, it stinks and hurts eyes.

Truthfully with many of todays premium oils you can run these sleds with a leaner oil mix but i dont like the risk myself.
