JD 400 problems
I have a 76 model 400 with a 340 kioritz and wlbro wra-31 carb. I replaced all fuel line cleaned carb and the tank added a fuel filter and even replaced the pickup in the tank. Then pulled and pulled to get fuel in the lines, when it started finally i warmed it up and rode it around the yard once went to go again and the motor would bog down when the throttle was open at all. Crank seals were checked with carb cleaner. The filter at first filled up to about 3/4 full at first now it only fills to about a 1/4 full of fuel. right now i am at a loss my 300 never gave me these problems.
Thanks in advance

Being a 76 with a plastic tank eliminates rust in the tank but you could still have crude blocking the pickup. It also doesnt take much to block up a fuel filter have you tried pulling it off sand blowing through it?

The carb should work. The filter at 1/4 full is normal. As they clog up they fill up more. Does your 340 have cdi ignition. If so, I would check the ohm readings for the high speed windings. The specs are found in the FAQ section.jd400_21x wrote:I have a 76 model 400 with a 340 kioritz and wlbro wra-31 carb. So if I go out to the JD boneyard what WDA carb should I look for? As for the CDI box I will try to ohm it out but what and where are the wires i need to check & what should they read?

There is a WRA-31 on ebay right now. Looks clean.
You can not really check a CDI with an OHM meter. But you can check your stator very easily with your meter.
There is a great write-up in the FAQ section on this procedure which will only that 10 minutes.
I am with Harley on this one... bad hi-speed winding on your stator.
You will find a NOS stator on a forum member e-Bay store.

Just hooked the meter up to the yellow & green wires that go to the cdi box with the plug connected to the motor and got a 2.43ohm reading also i noticed there is a "o" type wire connector under the dash area with 3 black wires together in that connector, it is not hooked up to anything is that a problem. also i seem to have followed someone elses screw up with my fuel lines I use 5/16 lines except for my pulse line which is a 1/4 tygon. the fuel lines are tight and seem to seal up so mybe not a problem but I guess I could use some more input.
Thanks
Thanks

Go to the FAQ section. there it is under "testing CDI Kioritz"
