I have a 1975 Johndeere JD300 with a 340cc F/C CCW Motor. I just bought a new external coil for this
sled, because she lost spark last winter on the recoil starter side. I put the new coil on, and STILL NO
SPARK!!!! Does anyone have any sudgestions???? Please help, would like to ride it before winter leaves.

Check plugs, plug wire ends, and if it has points check those. If it has points they will be under the flywheel. Pull the flywheel and clean them with a points file or emery and try it. Its more than likely corroded points but check the plugs and plug ends first or switch the inputs on the coils and that will tell you if your points are bad. The side that doesnt have spark should get it if you cross the inputs to the coils. But make sure you put it back if you decide to test it this way.

Swap the leads coming from the points to the external coils.

If the dead plug swaps sides, the problem is under the flywheel.
If not, the problem is right in front of you: coil, wire, or plug.

have to ask is the build date 1975 on tunnel? if so that would make this a 76 sled. Which would actually be a 340/22 reedvalve engine.

either way its the points you cleaned them but you may have left fluff or something between the points on one side reclean the points with ladies nailfile (some dont go all the way to end just cut it off) regap and it should work.

The guy that sold me the johndeere told me the JD300 was a 1975 model. Actually, i traded my 1985
v-max 540 for this. The v-max needed a rebuild anyways.

You need to use a 0.014 feeler gauge to set the points.
