1980 LF fuel pump question

Post by monte44 »

I bought a 1980 LF which had no fuel pump and carbs on it (decent sled other wise). I was told from other people that the orginal 5 plate fuel pump is still the best for the LF and that they seem to start and run better with them. Is this true?? Is there a fuel flow difference from them to new mikuni fuel pumps?? I have an old LF pump but can you even get kits for them anymore??

I`ve been wondering the exact same thing.

I just took a five plate apart and cleaned it, I want to replace the o-ring, and call it good... I hope. I got a couple of the new smaller style mikunis which are far more simple inside, but I wonder if they flow as good.

1980 LF fuel pump question

I talked to a guy locally who had a rebuilt small style pump on his 80 LF and said it always started hard and and never seemed to run quite right. He put on a 5 plate and said he never had a problem again and claimed he changed nothing but the pump!! So who knows!!!

You can still buy the rebuild kits for them. But I haven't seem them in awhile... Ill have to check the manufacturer on the package.
