either scrape off the aluminum or use acid to remove it from the cyl walls then hone..
You have a PM back

rotax 440 free air 0.020 pistons fit into that motor. You will have to camfer the ports as since everyone else missed it the ring caught on port and cracked off the top of piston long before any aluminum disappeared on that piston.

mag side seal is non ribbed 25-62-10 pto side is 30-62-10.

Chances are the leftovers of that piston ended up in the crankbearings if you look real closely at them you will probably see piece of aluminum in bearings.

440/2/3/5 all used same pistons straight skirt even openings on side of piston around crank pin not off to one side as the reed valve engines.

/5 cylinders have 4 ports in them instead of 2 one set of studs goes most way through cylinder the other doesnt. For piston ported ccw this is the best engine with most potential they made. as a note liquidator and /rs engines used the same port design to give you idea.

Rodimus Prime,

I have a Question for you. You seam very knowlageable on the ccw piston port motors. In what other sleds besides Deere would one find any of the CWW 440 Piston port Motors? particularly the CCW KEC 440/5. That would greatly aid us in tracking down used parts.

thanks

The 440/5 was used in the 500 and 600 in the 74 and 75 models.

Yes, but how about in other brands of Snowmobiles? Example: Scorpion, Rupp, Herters?

Scoprion used a lot of CCW's but never the 5 series and never any 440's. Only 290, 340, 400.

Raiders used almost all CCW.

Skiroule, Rupp and many more I am sure.

Mercs used 440 CCW's in the right time frame but don't know the series. And they beat Deere to Kioritz by a year (1975).

Raiders used 400 ccw and 440 reed valve mercs used 340/5 but went to 440/22 instead of piston port. There was some other 1 year sleds that used this engine but they are impossible to find.

the /1 series engine is completely different engine cough cough very simular to the kohler 440 cough cough.

Burnt Piston in The 600

Stopped by the place I bought the 600 from today looking for the missing Side panels. I Found the Clutch side panel. The Recoil side panel still eludes me but most likely is still there some where. I got talking to the previous owner about the situation with the piston. He said he had another motor for it that was parted out, and out in his scrap pile. So off we went digging in the snow out in his scrap Pile. We found both jugs, one piston, one head and the upper and lower crank case. we couldn't find the crank with the other piston or the other head. He thinks the missing parts might be buried in is garage yet. His Garage is a mess. The motor parts we found have been out in the elements, I don't know if they are any good for anything. The jugs are somewhat rusty so I suspect by the time you get them shined up you would need to run over sized pistons in them. But none the less they might be good to someone? The numbers show it to be a CCW KEC-440/5
