Carb Indentification?

Post by oscar89 »

Ok I see the VM Mikuni manual breaks down various engine tests that tell whether the jets are sized properly & the air screw is set correctly. Since this is a non-OEM carb the John Deere service manual settings may not be right.

I know that, but they're right now.... I just give the engine what it wants...easy.

Yep just figuring it out for myself. Gotta a wicked exhaust backfire yesterday from the fuel that was pooled in the exhaust, blew the snow & sawdust back off the garage floor a long ways. Hope that taking the jet needle up a notch will stop that.

Their isn't 1 pictured in the manual diagram so perhaps the newest carbs don't got.

The washer was used like a half notch position. Some have them and some don't.

If for example you think 2 is almost right and 3 is just a little two much put in the washer.

Ya had to set jet needle back to 1st notch to get the SF to quit smogging the entire neighborhood. Now I gotta figure out why the lights aren't working.

My carb mounts in such way that it is pointing up from the intake at perhaps +20 degrees. In other words the carb isn't mounted flat w/ the snowmobile. Everytime I take the carb off there is a pool of fuel in the rubber intake mount. Also fuel runs out the pilot hole of carb outlet when I hold the carb in the same position its mounted. I set up the fuel shutoff to the same level the SF manual indicated. Is the carb suppose to mount pointing up?

The bowl is overfilling & flooding out the engine, but why. Having taken the carb apart everything is as specified by the Mikuni manual & the float needle is shutting off properly.

Ok just contacted a Mikuni dealer & he said these carbs are designed to be mounted horizontally & when mounting off-horizontal the tab on the float mechanism has to be adjusted downward. The problems of going non-OEM.
Would think the engine would be flooded out on a downhill run even w/ a horizontal mounting.
