Carb? problem
Need some advice. Prior to the new carb kit I just put in, a 31 walbro, it would pump gas up to the carb and shoot it right back down the return line. So figured something a new carb kit would solve. Ha Ha Ha on me. So new carb kit, gaskets, springs, plungers, etc..... Still nothing, it seems to be pumping up to the carb but nothing. Anybody have an idea for me?

When I put the carb back together I kind of thought the metering lever was a little tight. Didn't allow much room for the needle valve to move up and down. Do you ever have to bend/adjust the metering lever. I can't find anything on it in the FAQ's.
Any help would be great.

First off, it is supposed pump fuel and vapor back to the tank via the return line.
As for the metering lever ( this is important ) The lever should be .005 to .020 above the main body ( carb inverted ).
To adjust, bend the tab at the needle end. There should be a spring under the lever.

Thanks Brian, I will have to pull it apart and check the lever, springs their I just didn't think there was enough travel. Let you all know what happens.

Worked on the meter lever and now too much fuel, going to bend it back the other way and hope that helps. If anybody has any other suggestions please let me know.

From the home page of this site, click on technical information and then "tuning carburetor". The entire Walbro manual is in there. The metering lever is .005 to .020 above the carb plate as mentioned above, but how do you measure that? Run a flat edge across the carb plates and it should just barely touch the metering lever. I've been working with these a lot lately because I seem to be pumping too much fuel also. My best results seem to be when the straight edge barely, and I mean barely, touches the metering lever. Also, I think it's important to make sure the needle and the seat are in excellent condition with nothing in the way. I have to pull the carb from my 400 again and recheck this. Starts great when it's cold, runs great, but almost impossible to start when it's warm and it's because there is too much fuel pulled into the carb and crank. My 300 had the same symptoms. I pulled the carb last night and adjusted and will try it again this weekend. Good luck!

I've been using the tuning information and things are better. It starts pretty good when it's cold and starts great when its warm. No snow here so will have to wait a bit to test things out but I'm pretty happy with the results for now. If we ever get some snow I'll have to let you all know how she does. I'm thinking it will run well.
