JD300 Recoil

Post by ejazz »

Hey fellas,

Had the 300 out on the lake this past weekend and my buddy pulled the rope out of the recoil and it did not rewind. I took it apart at home and the little spring (M47219) under the cam is broke in two. The recoil never did have a lot of snap back to it. Is this spring still available and is there a way to preload the recoil spring to give it more tension. When the plastic rope wheel is lifted out of the cover, the recoil spring is sitting in the bottom. I don't want that thing flying out of there.
The serial # on the '74 is 21748M.

Also, if you have read my prior posts, I was having trouble with my Walbro WDA-1 that somehow made it on this machine. I was and still am getting excess fuel coming out of the exhaust manifold. The sled starts and runs really nice but when I rebuilt the carb I too, did not think the metering lever had enough travel and tweaked it a little. Would it still run this good if the metering lever was allowing to much fuel into the carb? To make sure I have this, flip the carb over and there should be .005 - .020 of clearence under the lever on the spring end?

I wouldn't say "under the lever". If you slide a straight edge across the carb body, the lever should depress slightly as it passes, .005-.020.
