295/S & 340/S pistons

Post by ICCSF 108 »

Maybe that can be a summer project for us, Nick, why don't you start a post & see how many would be interested?? I would commit to 4 pistons
By the way I was told that the Kimpex 09-685K pistons ( this is a single ring piston ) would work in the Sprintfires anybody able to confirm or deny this?? If some one has enough left of a blown used Sprintfire piston that they could send me I'll see how it compares to the Kimpex ones I have..

For you guys that might know~ I found these NOS Wiseco 340/s pistons on Ebay. Are these the original/aftermarket 340/s pistons I've been told about? If so, should one of these be sent to Wiseco now??

PJ, As far as I know they were a replacement for the CCW 340 cc piston ported motors, Not necessarily the 340RS/2 motors, I have been told that they will work??( but also I don't know anyone who is using them) BUT What Will Work, doesn't mean that they were a direct replacement. the old Wiseco number for the number 2012PS was a CW340-S I don't believe this meant the 340RS/2 motors, what I believe it to mean was a CCW 340cc & the S = 340 cc STD. BORE.. It would be my vote to use the original Deere 295RS/2 & 340RS/2 pistons, to have Wiseco TELL US what is the BEST DIRECT Replacement, NOT something that will just work.. Besides the CW340-S &/or the 2012PS are also becoming hard to find.
So lets do it right the first time...

Just my $.0735 worth

Update: 2/12/09

I just got off the phone w/ Wiseco's power sport engineering group and they think they should have some price quotes for these piston kits by the end of next week, if not sooner. I have a LOT of other details about them I'll post later when I get a minute, but in a nutshell, they will be applying the very latest in 2-stroke piston design technology for these products to not only make power, but to be FARRRRRR more durable than any stock part ever thought of on it's best day... Good stuff!

Cheers!

Any updates? Just took apart my 295/S engine to see what size pistons I would need and it looks like .020" should work just fine. If the price is right I might want two sets.

Update: 2/25/09

I spoke with Wiseco today where we discussed a few details regarding piston specs, fitment, etc. and this is a very quick, brief, summary of the conversation. BTW, they will have pricing for everyone this week.

1. The piston is forged and of a low-expension rate material.

2. The piston crown, under side, ring lands and pin holes will be electro-plated (hard anodized) to keep heat in the combustion chambers for power, in the ring lands to prevent micro-welding or "sticking" of the rings at high RPM and in the pin holes to prevent the pin from sticking in its bore. This coating also promotes low expansion rates, which allows for shorter warm-up periods, less material expansion and greater overall durability.

3. The pin will be a tapered wall design that provides exceptional strength with lighter weight than the stock parts.

4. The piston will be cam-ground to promote a snug fit (within specified tolerances) which will allow them to run quiet and retain oil better than the stock parts.

5. The piston skirts will be coated to prevent skirt scuffing and promote quick break-in.

6. Rings will be of a Wiseco, easily replaceable design that are indexed within the ring lands to prevent them from walking. (which causes ring snags on port edges)

7. They will be lighter than the heavy stock parts, so engine performance will increase as a result.

8. The piston "kit" will come with 1 piston, 2 piston rings, 1 piston pin, 2 pin circlips, 1 connecting rod upper end needle bearing, fitment instructions and cylinder hone surface specs.

That's all for now..
