JDX Electric Start

A guy is installing a NOS electric start kit on my JDX8. He has double checked everything and he feels it is hooked up correct and according to the directions. However when he turns the key on the ignition switch; nothing. He says if he jumps the solenoid it fires right up (I am not sure what he means by jumps). He has not checked to see if he has conductivity on the switch.

Any thoughts?

I find it hard to believe it would be the solenoid as this is NOS (Joe Rainville I purchased the kit from you about 1.5 years ago). I think it must be the ignition switch.

Does any one have a ignition switch. I see there is a generic ignition switch on ebay that I think could work but would prefer the appropiate part if possible.

Did the kit have the wire harness that replaces the jumper wire by the recoil.

Here is a similiar wiring diagram, the only difference is the points ignition.

you should check the switch wiring before condemming it.

You need to check the wire on the solenoid the small stud below the 2 large batt cable studs for power when its in the crank position. If theres power at the wire its the solenoid if theres none its the switch.

Also make sure that you have a battery ground on the bracket that the solenoid is mounted to.

Thanks guys for all the help. I got it all down to take to the guy installing.

I am really betting it is a bad switch or even a switch that is not configured for electric start. Looking through ebay and Parts Unlimited I realized that Deere had ignition switches that were configured for electric start and those that were not configured for electric start. I wonder if I do not have the latter switch and we are trying to do something on the switch it was not meant to do.

The JDX8 I am restoring is really mint, and found just 5 miles from my house. All orginal with very minimal wear. The switch has just either gone bad or is not configured correct for electric start.

73 JDX8 with bogies. I am excited to get her back to enjoy and share with you folks.

to the best of my knowledge all the switches will work with e start on the x and 0 sleds
