If i may suggest don,t take that nice machine up there because those trails will beat the piss out of that sled. I took a 1983or 82 sprint fire up there and sum of those trails were rough. but im 16 and i made it the whole way with no problems at all nothing went wrong. Every one was changing plugs and i was running like a champ. We did about 200 miles that day and then about 75 miles the next day and she still is fine.

I really like those '78-79 Spitfires. Love the green color as well. They are a great sled. Gotta love those Kohler motors. Nice work.

Spitty looks great! I have 4 of them myself and that is my plan to start going through them this summer one at a time. I have already started tearing one down , its a 78 my dad bought new and at that time i didn't like the green so he stripped and polished the tunnel and painted the hood black like the 80 model when they came out. But i think I'm gonna put it back to original. Here is a pic of the other three I have and one of them my dad bought new also(its the one to the right). Thanks for some more inspiration on my projects , Ed

I agree ,Robb there is something about that emerald green on white snow that just catch's your eye ,at least mine anyways, And that sweet free air sticking out of the hood really sets it off! Cledus, I am glad my project helped inspire you. I wish you luck on your up coming projects. I could restore spits one right after another. The parts chasing gets to be a chore sometimes, But that is forgotten in short order when you take that first ride.I am just plain addicted to green spits.Three resto's later ,I now believe there is no cure ,(nor does my wife)! Well, I think its time for me find another fix!Anyone got what I need? I really want to build one to race the Bevra series ,however I don't know If one could be competetive on a oval with a chain cased 340. I will however ,be riding one of my spits in the 2010 vintage challenge! It is ready and so am I! Maybe, Rich wants to go too?
