my 1980 trailfire does not have the ring gear. how could i tell if it has been replaced? engine serial #'s?

i had thought that only those equiped with the electric start option had the ring gear, also the JD instructions for installing electric start on trailfires show that you have to replace the flywheel with one that has a ring gear.

just put the kit on today (homemade from a electric start intruder) wow what a easy and handy deal, very simple to make, i'd definitely recommend this to every trialfire owner out there! now just need that rectifier.. anyone know what the Part number is for one of these little rectifiers.. any info on one of these like where to find one or a replacement would be great!
