Crank Seals

Post by Cabindweller »

Changed the PTO seal on my KEC-440/5 600 motor today. Getting the old one out wasn't what I would call a delicate procedure. I followed the directions in my chylmers manual. I Drove a Screwdriver through it at an angle. I think a long round sharp punch would be better suited for the task? I polished the shaft with a scotch bright pad and applied a light coat of oil to it. I also put a light coat of silicone inside the seal seat in the case. I made a wooden block with a 1 1/4 hole in the middle to tap the new seal in. I haven't changed the mag side seal yet. I am still pondering it, and I don't have a flywheel puller yet. When you pull the lighting coil and the ignition parts out is it possable to mark them in such a way that you can put it back together close to timed? Bear with me here, I have never been inside a two stroke this far before. I got the upper end of this motor ready to go with 150 psi of compression on the side that was bad and about 155 psi on the side I never touched.

Thanks
Jerry

Just mark the stator plate and case with a sharpie to re-align. Just make sure you don't erase the sharpie with a cleaner.

I would mark with a small center punch (case & stator plate) the smaller the mark the closer you'll be on your timing. If your motor has points I would still re-adj the timing on both cyl.'s afterword, Just to make sure it dead on..
