Independent Front Suspension

Post by Deleted User »

Hello Everyone, I am interested in adding Independent front suspension to one of my sportfires. The sled I think I want to convert is completely original and I still trail ride each winter. I am looking for more information about purchasing a pre designed suspension and any experiance from someone thathas added IFS to aJohn Deere before.

Thanks,

 Before anyone rips your head off about wrecking a vintage sled, new sleds have been engineered properly, etc... I can see their point. However, it was worth the trouble for me, as my sled was pretty rough to start with and i would be out nothing if it failed. The kit I used came from a place in Alberta, Canada called Center Point Performance (780)985-2747 (ask for Larry, nobody else there knows anything) It cost me $350 CDN and came with all the parts and mounts for a trailing arm type suspension. It is a tad crude, requires some welding for the shock mounts, but the ride is better than stock and the spindles are easily reworked to accept later model Ski Doo skis. It is a lot of work installing and checking to make sure everything is tight and drives straight. Would I do it again? Probably, I feel the Deere riding position is the most confortable for me.

I'll just mention that older IFS Indys can be bought dirt cheap.

Do you have any pictures of your sled you can share with the rest of us Snowcombine?

JD Matt, you are right, building my trailfire with the ifs and the other changes wasn't cheap or easy. But I have the skills necessary do it. I have a Doo summit for the serious riding, and keep the Trailfire for riding with the family.

Quadfamily, it is torn apart right now, as I got it working last winter and now I want it to look good too. Once I get the farming done I should have it all back together by the end of November. If you go to the pictures section of this site, the
Liquifire with the ifs is the exact same kit.
