finding a new interest

Post by jddecalguy »

i got a story you guys might enjoy hearing about. a few years back after i got my dator restored i was looking for a good and safe place to keep it. so i thought to meyself i'll ask my john deere dealer if he would like to have it on display since he had sold deere sleds back in the day. thinking that this would be a good show piece for the store and it would be a good place to store it (heated show room and a controlled enviroment). anyway he responded that he did'nt have the room and that deere no longer made sled so why would he want it there. i didn't think much more about it and that was that. i have since found a new home for the dator and moved on to different projects. well i was at the deere dealership 2 days ago (i'm there quite often since i own all deere construction equipment), and was talking to gary the owner showing him the indator custom sled that i had built when he said to me you know i wish that i would have taken you up on that offer about your dator. that it is getting to be a quite common thing to see an old deere sled on display at a deere dealership. and if i had your dator here i would have one up on one of me partner dealerships that have a 1974 300 still in the crate on their showroom floor. i stopped him there and said what? he goes ya, they had a 74 300 still in the crate from when it was new and never sold it so now they show it off. i asked him if he could get me photos and if it was for sale. he said well there's not much to see, but i'll take photos of it the next time i go there. the conversation and with "well who knew that there would be this much interest in deere snowmobile history?"

in closing all i can say is as the years go by more and more people are getting in to this and i think that is great.

Interesting....

Yes, photos would be good.

Btw; It's obviously not a '72 (JD300's made 74-77), but interesting none the less.
